Marinus Nijhoff (1927-2010) overleden
Op 28 augustus jl. overleed Marinus
Nijhoff, in 1976 één van de oprichters van de W.S.S.C.
Hij was tevens de eerste voorzitter (1976-1984) en lid
van de redactie van „De Welsh Springer“ in dezelfde
periode.
In de landelijke kynologie was hij heel
actief, o.a. als voorzitter van de Kynologen Club Gouda
en Omstreken, als secretaris van „Canis“ en de “W.K.
Hirschfeld Stichting“, als bestuurslid van „Rayon West“
van de Raad van Beheer. Voorts in het Kynologisch
Platform en in de Commissie Democratisering van de Raad
van Beheer.
In de afgelopen jaren bezocht Marinus
nog altijd de ledenvergaderingen, de
Kampioenschapsclubmatches en een aantal
tentoonstellingen in het land.
Veel leden van de W.S.S.C. zagen en spraken hem voor het
laatst in Almere, op de clubmatch van 22 augustus jl.
Marinus’ belangstelling voor de Welsh
Springer Spaniel en voor het reilen en zeilen van de
rasvereniging, is nooit verflauwd en met name de
fokkerij van jonge, succesvolle fokkers volgde hij
belangstellend, maar nu vanaf de zijlijn.
Op zijn crematie in Zwolle, 3 september
jl., was het voltallige bestuur van de W.S.S.C.
aanwezig, evenals alle redactieleden en een aantal
fokkers. Namens het bestuur sprak Anja Wetsteyn een
afscheidsgroet uit, waarin werd teruggegaan naar de tijd
dat de rasvereniging, onder Marinus’ bezielende leiding,
werd opgericht en uitgebouwd.
Het onderstaande bericht verscheen in de
Engelse krant “Our Dogs“ van 10 september 2010:
I was very sorry to hear of the death in the Netherlands
of Marinus Nijhoff. Marinus did a lot for the founding
of the WSSC of the Netherlands and his wife Ria Hörter
imported several dogs from the UK who went on to have a
great influence on the breed there.
My thanks to Anne Walton for the following: Marinus'
son drove a coach load of Dutch Welsh Springer
enthusiasts to our Club show on at least one occasion,
many years ago. The coach had a huge WELSH SPRINGER
SPANIEL CLUB IN NEDERLAND emblazoned down the side, and
they arrived at the show in great spirits.
Sadly, we have not seen Marinus and Ria at our shows for
some time, due to ill health. Marinus excelled in dog
photography, and his photographs were frequently
published, both in our Club Year Books, and Overseas.

Marinus was co founder and honorary member of the WSSC
of the Netherlands. He bred 3 litters with Fen Bjirk
Hieming's Rixt under the "van de Ruige Weide" affix.
Cindy van de Ruige Weide went on to produce Ch. Baloo
van het Ommerbos.
This dog produced a number of puppies, also the first
litter at kennel Inma's)! Later on Ria and Marinus imported
several dogs from the UK, such as Ch Haregate Ash and Ch
Nyliram Mr Dark Horse (the breed record holder in the
Netherlands and son of Sh Ch Russethill Royal Salute
over Nyliram.
The breed has lost a wonderful ambassador for the breed
and I’m sure you will join with me in sending our
sincere condolences to Ria, their family and friends at
this sad time.
